As part of consolidating Catalonia’s position as a benchmark for innovation in Europe, the X4HPC network participated yesterday in the kick-off session of the Community of R&D&I Transfer Networks for the new 2026-2028 period. The event, led by the Directorate General for Transfer and the Knowledge Society (DGTSC) of the Department of Research and Universities, marks the beginning of an ambitious phase that aims to position Catalonia among the 50 most innovative regions in the European Union by 2030.
A Record Investment to Boost Knowledge
The third edition of this call for proposals has a budget of €12.2 million, representing a significant increase compared to the €9.5 million of the previous period. In this new phase, the number of beneficiary networks has grown to 13 selected networks, including X4HPC, consolidating its strategic role in the technology transfer ecosystem.
This strategy aligns with the Strategic Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Plan (PEITC) 2024-2030, which aims to transform the R&D&I system through five fundamental pillars: strategy, funding, scaling, talent, and business.
X4HPC’s Role in the New Roadmap
As part of the Network Community, X4HPC will actively participate in a program of activities designed to maximize the social and economic impact of research. Key actions planned for this period include:
- Alignment sessions: Coordination with other key instruments such as Industrial PhDs, Microcredentials, and the FITA Fund.
- Visits to strategic infrastructures: Exploring synergies in major technology infrastructures and acceleration spaces.
- International Projection: Joint presence at leading events such as the Transfiere 2026 Forum in Málaga, and the Slush and Hello Tomorrow conferences.
Commitment to the Productive Sector
One of the major challenges of this new period is achieving the goal of the Catalunya Lidera Plan: to ensure that 60% of Catalan businesses have technological transformation projects underway. The X4HPC network, specializing in high-performance computing, will be a key player in connecting knowledge generation with the demands of the productive sector, fostering public-private collaboration and the creation of disruptive solutions.
